2 Las Vegas jail guards arrested in inmate’s beating
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Two Las Vegas corrections officers face felony charges for allegedly beating an inmate inside his cell during the night.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department says 23-year-old Nicholas Dias and 28-year-old Eduardo Bueno were arrested Friday. Both were hired as corrections officers in 2018.
Police say last week Diaz had a verbal altercation with an inmate outside of a cell, walked away and returned with Bueno. Authorities say the officers entered the victim’s cell and beat him. The victim was not identified.
The officers will be on unpaid leave during the criminal proceedings. They were charged with oppression with force, conspiracy to commit oppression with force and battery.
