Investigation into Maine trooper’s death now in hands of DA
BANGOR, Maine (AP) — Police in Maine say they’ve completed an investigation into fatal injuries suffered by a detective when he was helping a driver and the case is now in the hands of a district attorney.
Maine State Police provided the update into the investigation of the death of State Police Det. Ben Campbell on Friday. Campbell was killed when a tire dislodged from a logging truck and struck him while he was assisting a motorist alongside Interstate 95 in the Hampden area in April.
State Police Col. John Cote says Campbell did nothing wrong related to the crash. He says the investigation found that the logging truck showed defects when it was inspected after the crash.
The truck was operated by Scott Willett, owner of a trucking company. A call to him was not returned.
