Spring Fling brings fun to Delmae Heights Elementary in Florence
FLORENCE, S.C. – Delmae Heights Elementary School students and families came out for a night of music, games and food during the annual Spring Fling event Friday afternoon.
The Spring Fling event is held to celebrate the end of the school year, according to Lisa Young, a fourth-grade teacher and an association of parents and teachers representative at Delmae Heights.
“We just wanted to do something fun at the end of the year to just cap the end of the year off,” Young said. “We are in the middle of state testing so it is stressful for everybody, the kids, the teachers, the parents, it is just kind of a way to let off some steam.”
During the event, children could play games such as ring toss and mini golf, and they could play in inflatables, including a bouncy house and slide. Families could also eat shaved ice, funnel cakes, ice cream and pizza.
Young said the event is made possible through the community partnerships and fundraisers the school has raised. Throughout the year, the school sponsors spirit nights at Chif-fil-A and family nights at Skateland USA in addition to spring and fall fundraisers that allows the school to have the Spring Fling for free.
Tabatha Brennick and her daughter Lola came to the event to enjoy the activities. Brennick said this is her daughter’s first year at Delmae Heights.
“We love it,” Brennick said. “She’s in the Spanish immersion class, and she loves it.”
The event also provided families with information about summer learning experiences available to the public, such as library and museum programs.
