City of Scottsbluff hires Starr Lehl as economic development director

The City of Scottsbluff announced Friday that it has hired Starr Lehl to fill the position of economic development director.

Lehl has worked for the Nebraska Department of Economic Development and served as western representative for Governors Johanns, Heineman and Ricketts for over 14 years.

“Starr’s experience and expertise in both community and economic development will be a great fit for Scottsbluff,” said City Manager Nathan Johnson.

“I am excited to begin a new adventure in my hometown of Scottsbluff and welcome the opportunity to work with existing businesses, the school district and also be able to showcase the community to new businesses looking for a great place to start or grow their business,” Lehl said.

Skilled workforce and housing seem to be the main areas of focus right now across the state and with the recent housing study completed through WNED (Western Nebraska Economic Development), the region should be ready to take action and possibly leverage funds from LB518 passed by the legislature during the recent session.

The economic development director position is new to the City of Scottsbluff and Lehl says she is up for the challenge and devoted to helping the city achieve the goals set forth in the Economic Development Strategic Plan completed in 2015. The plan encourages a regional approach to economic development as well as involvement of many stakeholders in order to accomplish ten core recommendations.

Lehl will begin her new duties on Monday, July 31.
