2 Injured In W-B Twp. Shooting
WILKES-BARE TWP. — Two men were hospitalized after being shot early Wednesday in the Stanton Hill section, according to police.
Police reported the men, who were shot in the 600 block of Casey Avenue around 7 a.m., were taken to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Twp. to be treated. Neither their names nor conditions were immediately released.
Capt. Will Clark of the Wilkes-Barre Twp. Police Department said the number of people involved in the shooting and the motivation behind it were unknown, but that police believed the victims were targeted.
“Our preliminary investigation leads us to believe that this is not a random act,” Clark said at the scene Wednesday morning. “This was directed.”
He declined to describe the vehicle seen leaving the scene, saying it remained under investigation.
“As of right now I don’t want to say what kind of car left the scene,” Clark said. “Like I said, we would only be speculating as to who was involved.”
The area of the shooting was closed to traffic through the morning, with yellow crime-scene tape stretching from the Kmart parking lot to the intersection of Anderson Street.
A black Honda Civic stopped in front of 605 Casey Ave. was riddled with bullet holes and broken windows, while well over a dozen yellow evidence markers stretched across the street and into the parking lot of Cinema 309 & Adult Gift Shop.
State troopers and Luzerne County detectives were assisting township police with the investigation.
