David Byrne: ‘Untethered’ concert at Oakdale

August 28, 2018 GMT

Gotta love the plan for David Byrne’s concert at Toyota Oakdale Theatre Saturday, Sept. 8: Byrne, the former singer-songwriter for new wave band Talking Heads, will be joined by his 12-piece band in a choreographed concert.

And if you remember the old video for “Once in a Lifetime,” or saw Byrne & Co.’s appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” you know this could be pretty cool and artistic. Or “untethered,” as Byrne called it in a publicity release.

The tour is celebrating Byrne’s latest album “American Utopia,” and Byrne has called this “the most ambitious show I’ve done since the shows that were filmed for ‘Stop Making Sense.’”

The infectious beat of the new work speaks for itself. “American Utopia” earned Byrne his hightest-charting album ever, a news release reported, entering at No. 1 on the Top Current Album Chart and No. 3 on the Billboard Top 200 and topping both Rock and Alternative Album charts.
