Boston protesters decry Trump’s declaration for border wall

February 18, 2019

BOSTON (AP) — Protesters have gathered in Boston to voice their opposition to President Donald Trump’s declaration of a national emergency to fund his planned U.S.-Mexico border wall.

The Boston Globe reports hundreds of people gathered in Cambridge Monday, where U.S. Rep. Ayanna Pressley dismissed Trump’s declaration as “fake.” The Boston Democrat listed problems she considers real emergencies, including the affordable housing crisis, gun violence and climate change.

Organized by the liberal group MoveOn and others, protesters converged in cities around the country. They chose Presidents Day to call Trump’s proclamation undemocratic and anti-immigrant.

The declaration shifts billions of federal dollars from military construction to the border. Trump says he’s trying to stop criminals, gang members and illicit narcotics from entering the country.

The Connecticut Post reports protesters gathered in Norwalk, Connecticut too.
