Poland’s Sochi silver speed skater injured
WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Poland’s silver medalist speed skater Natalia Czerwonka sustained spine injuries when she crashed into a tractor while training on a bike.
Czerwonka hit a tractor parked on the roadside and briefly lost consciousness while training in Spala, central Poland, for the upcoming national biking championships.
A neurologist at the hospital in Lodz, where she is being treated says Tuesday that she is in good condition and conscious, despite suffering fractures and injuries to her chest, neck and spine.
Physician Andrzej Radek believes Czerwonka will be able to return to professional sport.
Czerwonka was part of Poland’s relay team at this year’s Winter Olympics in Sochi that won silver in speed skating.
