Idaho Athletic Director Rob Spear fired by State Board of Education
In a unanimous vote by the Idaho State Board of Education, University of Idaho Athletic Director Rob Spear has been fired, the Lewiston Tribune reports.
The board moved “to terminate for convenience” Thursday morning, citing it was in the university’s and its students’ best interest. The board approved the motion during an open meeting Thursday at Idaho State University.
Spear was placed on paid administrative leave April 3 while an independent investigation was conducted into the handling of sexual assault complaints. The findings, released earlier this month, found both UI and Spear’s response in 2012-13 to reports of alleged harassment and sexual assault by student-athletes was “insensitive and inadequate.”
Spear had been the school’s athletic director since 2004.
