St. Bernard’s Pounds Out Runs in Rout
Opening the 2019 season on the road, the St. Bernard’s softball team made a statement on Wednesday.
And what a statement it was.
The Bernardians kicked off their campaign with a 15-0 blanking of Notre Dame Academy in Worcester, with Erin Haverty leading the way with both her arm and bat.
Haverty threw three innings of two-hit ball in the five-inning contest. The senior also went 3-for-5 at the plate, belting a home run and driving in 5 in the victory.
Emily Malone went 3-for-4, scoring 3 runs and walking twice, while Rhiannon Young was 3-for-3 with 2 walks.
Rebecca Thibaudeau pitched the final two innings for St. Bernard’s (1-0), striking out 5 Notre Dame batters.
Winners for Nashoba (1-0) were Tati Picard (shot put), Sydney Frend (discus), Sada Libby-Grantham (high jump), Nina Ambrose (2 mile), Ali Gillooly (mile) and Alexandra Bettez (800). The 4x100 relay team of Gillian Trackey, Elsie Yang, Mei Bell and Cat Fox also claimed a first-place finish for the Chieftains.
Fitchburg (0-1) was paced by multiple victories from Wonuola Ashaju (100, 400, long jump, triple jump) and Emerson Scott (100m hurdles, 400m hurdles). Olamide Bamgbose won the 200 and the Red Raiders claimed victory in the 4x400 relay.
