Mom of boy, 14, who killed self sues Texas school district
WICHITA FALLS, Texas (AP) — The mother of a 14-year-old North Texas boy who killed himself has sued a school district alleging her son was bullied and administrators took no action to stop the harassment.
Roxanne Jones sued the Iowa Park Consolidated Independent School District on behalf of the estate of her son, T.G. Garcia. The lawsuit, filed Oct. 25 in Wichita Falls, says the boy in 2014 fatally shot himself while at home.
The lawsuit says the family had reported bullying and one then-administrator responded that “boys will be boys.”
The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.
Superintendent Steve Moody, in response to the lawsuit, declined to address specifics but says the district disputes many of the claims. Moody says student safety and welfare are a top priority and policies are in place to protect students.
