Man confesses to killing, then recants; bail set at $1.5M
OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — A man has had bail set at $1.5 million after court documents say he confessed to killing his former neighbor in 2009 but then recanted the confession.
The Olympian reports 53-year-old Eric Lee Roberts called 911 Tuesday and said he wanted to confess to a murder, according to probable cause documents.
Documents say he said he killed Nancy Moyer 10 years ago and felt tired of holding it inside. Documents say he told investigators the two had a sexual relationship and that he accidentally strangled her.
But on Wednesday, as investigators began searching his property south of Olympia, documents say Roberts recanted those statements.
Moyer was reported missing March 7, 2009 after her estranged husband went to drop off their two children at her home near Tenino but she wasn’t there. Her body has never been found.
It wasn’t known if Roberts has a lawyer.
