Man charged in shooting deaths of wife, stepdaughter, 12
NEW PARIS, Pa. (AP) — State police say a Pennsylvania man has been charged in the deaths of his wife and 12-year-old stepdaughter, whose bodies were found in the basement of his home.
Police in Bedford County say 35-year-old Benjamin Lee Figard was arrested after calling troopers to his New Paris home shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday.
Authorities allege that he shot 40-year-old Amanda Jane Figard in the basement and then shot Laina Haney in the living room before moving her body to the basement.
Police said responding troopers tried unsuccessfully to revive the victims. A handgun was found by Figard’s car. Police say there was evidence of efforts to clean blood from the crime scene.
Court documents don’t list a defense attorney and a listed number for Figard couldn’t be found Saturday.
