Morning fire damages home being renovated

November 22, 2018

Fire badly damaged a West Hamilton Road home under renovation Wednesday morning.

Gale Stelzer, Aboite Township Volunteer Fire Department chief, said it took about 40 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Stelzer said, but when the fire department arrived around 6 a.m., “the whole front of the house was involved,” he said.

The two-story home at 6624 W. Hamilton Road was a week away from renovation being completed, Stelzer said.

Because the area has no hydrants, Stelzer called the Air National Guard and other units with large tankers. Other responding units included Southwest Fire, Ossian, Churubusco, Huntertown and Washington Township.

Suspect sought in August robbery

The Fort Wayne Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a robbery suspect.

Around midnight Aug. 16, a man was leaving his apartment in the 900 block of West Berry Street when a man in his early 20s approached him in the hallway and made him go back into his apartment, police said.

The robber, described as about 6 feet, white and slender with sandy blond to brown hair and a possible scar on the right side of his scalp, took the victim’s laptop computer, a cellphone and cash. The victim was hit in the face with a handgun during the robbery, police said.

Surveillance video from the apartment complex shows the suspect entering the building, police said.

Anyone with information about this suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 260-436-7867.
