Sturgill Simpson visits schools in Kentucky hometown
JACKSON, Ky. (AP) — Country music star Sturgill Simpson has made a surprise visit to public schools in his Kentucky hometown.
WYMT-TV reports Simpson made an unannounced visit to Breathitt County High School on Friday. Principal Carolyn McDaniel said Simpson visited every classroom to talk about his life and how he found success. Videos posted online show Simpson playing guitar and singing his song, “Long White Line” for students at Marie Roberts-Caney Elementary School.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reports Simpson grew up in Breathitt County, but graduated from Woodford County High School. Simpson has been on tour this summer with Willie Nelson. But he often finds time to return to his native Kentucky. In March, the Kentucky legislature honored Simpson by giving him the honorary title of “Kentucky Colonel.”
