We’re raising wimpy, weak-minded kids
To the editor:
I’ve been watching the news and I’m amazed. What exactly are colleges teaching our kids and who are these professors. University of Massachusetts sent out a letter to the students offering counseling in case they were traumatized by the election results; other colleges excused students from class to recover from the shock of the election. Really?
Apparently we are raising a generation of wimps that are the most wimpy in the entire history of mankind. Safe spaces, offer of counseling and excused absences for recovery from an election, encouraging riots and protests if the students disagreed with the outcome of the election. Honestly, if my son or daughter were in college and did any of the above, their little tails would be pulled out of college and they’d be working for a living until they figured out how the world works.
Colleges today are spewing out graduates that have no idea how to make a living or how to deal with loss, or how to interact with people that disagree with them. Our kids are being brainwashed into believing that the world owes them a living, that they are more important than anyone else, that their ideas are better than their neighbors, etc. They do not have to allow others to have a dissenting opinion (i.e. not allowing speakers to speak at their university because they have conservative or dissenting views). They are borrowing thousands of dollars to learn how not to live in a civilized society. And after borrowing all this money, they are not prepared to enter society and make a living so that they can pay off the money that they borrowed knowing full well that they’d never be able to pay it off in the first place. Then they cry copious tears about how much debt they have.
And when did it become OK to riot and violently demonstrate when you don’t get your way. Peaceful demonstration is an American right, but rioting, blocking highways, burning, and looting is not. Our kids are learning these things from left-wing, socialist professors that are in favor of communism instead of a free society. They don’t teach the constitution. They don’t teach free, open, peaceful exchange of ideas. They don’t teach how our founders built this country and why they wrote the constitution and Bill of Rights. Hell, most of our professors and students have not even read the aforementioned documents.
Our students idolize Beyonce, Miley Cyrus, other Hollywood ner-do-wells, and football players, instead of our police, fire fighters, and military. They place coke heads and domestic abusers on a pedestal, while tearing down people that actually make a difference in our society. How many of them know who the vice president is, who the speaker of the House is, how many justices are on the Supreme Court, who fought in the Revolutionary War and why, etc. Just ask a college student. Even worse, ask a high school student. Sad.
Whose fault is this? Who allowed this to happen? Every parent who didn’t take an interest in their child’s studies as they were growing up. Every parent who did not take an interest in what their child was studying and what was going on in the classrooms. Every parent that allowed their child to participate in sports or other outside activities at the expense of their school work. Every parent who wouldn’t allow their precious little one to participate in a sport or contest that had an actual winner and loser. Any parent who bought in to the “don’t discipline” movement so that their child has no sense of right or wrong. Any parent who allowed their child to borrow tens of thousands of dollars with no idea how to pay the debt. Any parent who never made their child “get a job” during the summer or between semesters so that they would begin to realize how the world really works. Any parent who didn’t teach their child about money, how to save it, how to invest it, how to make it work for them, and never, never, never go into credit card debt. Any parent who didn’t teach respect for those who are in public service such as police, firefighters, the military, and their elders. Any parent who allows their children to lie on the couch instead of getting a job, no matter how old they are.
Yes, it’s our fault that our children have turned into the unfeeling, monstrosities that they are. I just hope it’s not too late to make changes, but I really wonder if we will even try.
The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.
