20 escape Tennessee Avenue apartment fire
Twenty people got out of an apartment building that caught fire just northeast of downtown Thursday night.
Fort Wayne firefighters were called at 6:35 p.m. to the apartments at 811 Tennessee Ave., near Griswold Drive and Spy Run Avenue.
The fire was found in a second-floor, occupied apartment, the Fort Wayne Fire Department said in a statement. All residents were able to evacuate without injuries, the statement said.
Firefighters had the fire under control in less than 15 minutes, but not before the blaze caused moderate fire and smoke damage and minor water damage, the department said.
The Red Cross assisted several adults and children because of the blaze.
