3 men killed in 2 car crashes in New Mexico’s Eddy County
EDDY COUNTY, N.M. (AP) — New Mexico State Police say three people have been killed in two separate car crashes in Eddy County.
They say 23-year-old Mario Pinion Medrano and 25-year-old Marcos Acosta were passengers in a pickup truck that rolled over about 8 a.m. Tuesday on State Road 31 east of Carlsbad.
The two men from Hobbs both were declared dead at the scene and the vehicle’s driver was injured.
Earlier Tuesday morning, authorities say 50-year-old David Lewis of Artesia was killed when the pickup truck he was driving collided head-on with a big rig on U.S. 82 east of Artesia.
A 28-year-old passenger in Lewis’ truck was airlifted from the scene and the 49-year-old driver of the semi-truck also was injured.
Police say alcohol doesn’t appear to be a factor in either accident.
