Depth chart diaries: Pitt’s Therran Coleman not listed, despite decisive interception
Pitt nickel back Therran Coleman made the decisive play Saturday when he intercepted a pass in the end zone to secure the 44-37 overtime victory against Syracuse.
Yet, he wasn’t listed Monday among 11 defensive backs on coach Pat Narduzzi’s weekly depth chart. That’s because the depth chart doesn’t reflect the nickel defense Pitt has played the past two games - only cornerbacks and safeties in the base alignment.
“We don’t look at depth charts very much,” Narduzzi said. “Therran has gotten better. I’m just so fired up for that kid. He needed that.”
Narduzzi said Coleman, a sophomore from Brashear, needs to practice better during the week.
“He’s like, `Oh, sure, coach, I’m a gamer,′ and I’m like, `Well, you’d better start to be a practice-er, too.′
“But Therran is a super kid. He’s always got a smile on his face. I’m happy for him because I think it just helps him in his confidence moving forward.”
