Call Center Workers Laid Off
A number of call center employees who work at Lord & Taylor were laid off on Tuesday but a company spokeswoman would not say how many.
A former employee who asked not to be identified said half the call center was closed. Another former employee said the workers were laid off without notice.
“None of us were forewarned of the closing,” said the employee, who asked not to be identified. “People were told of it and sent home.”
Chantal Richard, spokeswoman for Canada-based Hudson’s Bay Company that owns Lord & Taylor, would not say how many people lost their jobs.
In an emailed statement, she said, “As we look for ways to continue to improve our customer experience across all channels, we have decided to consolidate some of our customer contact center functions” in Wilkes-Barre Twp. Regular full- and part-time associates will receive appropriate employment separation packages and transfer opportunities will be explored.
