FFA excels at national convention
WAUPUN — Ten Waupun FFA members traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana Oct. 17-22 for the 89th National FFA Convention. Members had the opportunity to be inspired by speakers like Diana Nyad, author and long distance swimmer; and Jason Brown, former NFL player turned farmer. Every person in attendance was challenged to follow the convention theme to “Transform” their lives and the lives of those around them.
Waupun FFA members toured Universal Technical Institute of Lisle, Illinois, Fair Oaks Dairy Swine Adventure of Fair Oaks, Indiana, and Connor Prairie of Fischers, Indiana. They also attended a Chris Young and Cole Swindell concert in Lucas Oil Stadium as well as the World’s Toughest Rodeo at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum. Additionally students met with hundreds of agricultural businesses and industry leaders, colleges and universities.
The Waupun FFA Chapter was honored at the convention with a 2-Star National Chapter Award. This award recognizes the top chapters in the nation based on their member, chapter and community development programs.
Waupun FFA member Toby Schreier was one of just 52 individuals selected to participate in the national talent program while in Indianapolis. Members auditioned to perform at a variety of locations throughout the greater Indianapolis area during the convention.
Danielle Warmka, a 2015 WAHS graduate was honored at the convention for earning her American FFA Degree. The American FFA Degree is the highest level of achievement that an FFA member can earn as a member.
In addition to Schreier and Warmka, those attending the convention were Tiffany Van Buren, Kaitlyn Schwanke, Marissa Haugen, Serena Freriks, Bailey Wetzel, Allen Duscheck , Robert Woock and Leslie Schreier.
