COLLEGE ROUNDUP: FMU men’s soccer team beats Georgia Southwestern
FLORENCE, S.C. – Jonas Dovland and Gaspard Mianne scored second-half goals 12 minutes apart Saturday night to lead the Francis Marion University men’s soccer team to a 2-0 victory over visiting Georgia Southwestern (3.7-2, 0-3-1) in Peach Belt Conference action.
The shutout is the second straight for FMU and fourth of the season. Francis Marion has not been scored upon over the last 192:03 of action. The win also lifts the Patriots (6-5-0, 2-2-0) into a tie for fourth place in the conference standings.
After a scoreless first half, Dovland scored on an assist by Sam Pollard in the 50th minute.
The Patriots have won four of their past five matches.
They return to action at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Clayton State.

MORROW, Ga. – Pia Haug scored from the left wing after a free kick to break a 1-1 tie shortly before halftime, and Clayton State (5-4-2, 2-4 PBC) went on to defeat Francis Marion University (5-6-1, 2-4) in Peach Belt Conference women’s soccer action.
In the 38th minute, the Patriots’ Rianna Orello tied the game at 1-1 with her third goal of the season.
FMU plays at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at UNC Pembroke.
FMU beats UNC Pembroke in five sets
PEMBROKE – Sophomore Courtney Abdur-Rahim registered a career-high 18 kills and served the opening three points of the deciding fifth set as Francis Marion University claimed a 25-20, 17-25, 25-19, 20-25, 15-10 victory over UNC Pembroke in Peach Belt Conference volleyball action.
Francis Marion (11-10, 3-4) completed the home-and-away sweep of the Braves (7-14, 0-5) on consecutive days.
Sophomore Kayla Arthur followed with 11 kills for the Patriots, who will play host to USC Aiken at 7 p.m. Friday.
