Sound Hot Ticket: Death From Above headline Metro Music Hall
As I’ve been listening to Death From Above, a hard-hitting Canadian rock duo, these past few weeks, I’ve been trying to classify them. The band, which headlines Salt Lake City’s Metro Music Hall on Saturday, delivers cutting, dark, propulsive rock with tightly crafted melodies and hooks — stuff that would sound equally as great in a small club as an arena.
The closest comparison is probably Muse, a group that wields similar strengths. Death From Above isn’t nearly as popular, and that’s probably a matter of timing. The band had a decade hiatus from 2004 to 2014 — the years Muse started selling out enormous stadiums. I hope this timing doesn’t keep people from the band’s newest album, this year’s “Outrage! Is Now.” It does the epic, spooky, occasionally operatic arena rock better than Muse does these days.
Tickets for Saturday’s show are $25-$30, available at metromusichall.com. Each ticket purchased online includes a digital copy of “Outrage! Is Now.” Doors open at 8 p.m., with the show beginning at 9 p.m. The Beaches will open the show. Metro Music Hall is located at 615 W. 100 South in Salt Lake City.
