Journalists protest in Guatemala after 2 colleagues killed
GUATEMALA CITY (AP) — Journalists across Guatemala are protesting in front of police stations and city halls to demand an investigation into the killing of two journalists and increased security for the profession.
Protesting journalists in the interior of the country say they are more vulnerable to local politicians and organized crime than their colleagues in the capital.
Prensa Libre newspaper correspondent Danilo Lopez and Radio Nuevo Mundo’s Federico Salazar were killed by gunmen on a motorcycle Tuesday while walking in a park in the southern town of Mazatenango.
Lopez had made complaints against two mayors who had threatened him over articles he had written.
