LAKE MILLS — Senior guard Kaitlyn Shadoski scored a game-high 14 points and Maggie Cody chipped in 11 as the Lakeside Lutheran girls basketball took down visiting Poynette 59-39 in a Capitol North Conference game on Thursday for the team’s fourth consecutive victory.

Lakeside (6-3, 2-0 conference) went on a 9-0 run with less than seven minutes to play in the first half to build a 12-point lead midway through. Abby Buxa and Cody hit layups on back-to-back trips to cap the scoring spurt with the Warriors ahead 27-14.

Shadoski hit a floater in the lane with less than a minute to play in the first half to give Lakeside a 32-20 edge.

“I’m really happy with how the team is coming together,” Lakeside Lutheran head coach Tim Matthies said. “There is diversity in the group in age. Roles are coming together and everyone is giving their best in their particular niche. We are working well together both offensively and defensively.”

The Warriors paired solid defensive with effective offense in the second half. Buxa hit a layin, part of her 10-point total, to put Lakeside ahead 41-22 with 11 minutes, 40 seconds remaining.

Midway through the half, Shadoski scored in the paint to put the Warriors up 47-27.

“The first half was a battle,” Matthies said. “Self-inflicted mistakes and fouls on our part. I have to get the girls better focused so that we don’t put ourselves in that kind of situation. Abby Buxa and Kaylee Raymond are two girls who stepped up tonight.”

For Poynette (6-4, 1-1), Hanna Walters scored 12 points and Jalynn Morter supplied 11.

Working the paint and containing Poynette’s two guards were priorities for Lakeside.

“We tried to emphasize getting the ball inside,” Matthies said. “We made a couple of defensive adjustments on Morter and Walters. Both are good shooters and drivers.”

The Warriors’ Lily Schuetz and Hannah Willems each scored five points.

Lakeside hosts Kettle Moraine Lutheran on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
