Dorothy M. Nickels

Dorothy M. Nickels, 92, of Lincoln, formerly of Beatrice, went to be with her Lord on Monday, July 30, 2018. She was born May 7, 1926, in rural Plymouth and was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Plymouth. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1943. She married Robert E. Nickels on November 25, 1948, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and they lived in Beatrice. She worked at the Lutheran Hospital, and for Dr. Kleppinger and Dr. Doyle, all of Beatrice. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Beatrice where she was active in LWML (was the former treasurer) and Naomi Circle. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Tuesday Eve Club, Red Hat Society, Friendly Singles Card Club, Sharing and Caring Support Group and had been a charter member of SE Nebraska Genealogical Society. She attended Holy Savior Lutheran Church in Lincoln. She volunteered for the Red Cross Bloodmobile, Hospital Gift Shop and Gage County Museum. She enjoyed handiwork, taking bus tours, visiting Branson and raising flowers.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia (Larry) Siebe of Lincoln and Peggy (Vern) Nelson of Potter; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ella Koenig Knoche; her husband Robert, who died December 9, 1999; one sister, Mirlene (Keith) Kramer; two brothers, Harlan (Marge) Knoche and Richard (Edith) Knoche.

Funeral services will be held at Holy Savior Lutheran Church of Lincoln on Friday, August 3, 2018, at 11 a.m. wiith Pastor James Irwin officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice at 2 p.m. A family prayer service will be held at 10:45 a.m. Friday morning at the church. A memorial has been established to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Beatrice. Closed casket visitation will be held Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice and then at Holy Savior Lutheran Church of Lincoln from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday with the family meeting and greeting friends and family. www.foxfuneralhome.net.
