Norfolk High volleyball claims first round win in HAC Tournament; NC wins opening round Mid State Conference Tournament match
The Norfolk High volleyball team is through to the second round of the Heartland Athletic Conference Tournament.
The Lady Panthers improved to 16-16 on the season after sweeping Grand Island at home last night 30-28, 25-16, 25-18. Alex Ruth recorded six kills, seven blocks, and 16 digs in the win. Sadie Mittlestadt & Gabby Ruth also had six kills and Anden Baumann dished out 21 assists. The Lady Panthers will face Lincoln Journal Star seventh ranked 19-12 Kearney this evening in the second round at Lincoln Southeast High School at 5:00. They will also play another match later in the evening. At the Mid State Conference Tournament last night, in matches at Pierce, Norfolk Catholic swept Pierce in a quarterfinal match 25-23, 25-23, 25-18 to improve to 11-14 on the year. Mary Fennessy had twelve kills, Abby Miller recorded ten kills and four blocks, Carly Marshall dug up 13 balls and had 20 assists, and Hayden Wolf added 14 digs. In other matches at Pierce, West Point Guardian Angels Central Catholic beat Boone Central/Newman Grove 3-1 in an opening round match and then Wayne blanked WPGACC 3-0 in the quarterfinals. In quarterfinal matches at Norfolk Catholic High School, Battle Creek swept Crofton 3-0 and Hartington Cedar Catholic whitewashed O’Neill 3-0. In semifinal matches this evening at Pierce, Norfolk Catholic meets Wayne at 6:00 and Battle Creek plays Hartington Cedar Catholic at 7:30. In consolation matches at Norfolk Catholic High School, West Point Guardian Angels Central Catholic takes on Pierce at 6:00 and Crofton plays O’Neill at 7:30.
