Prep football rankings: Waunakee, Sun Prairie hold firm at No. 3 and No. 4 among large schools

Waunakee and Sun Prairie held on to their positions in this week’s Associated Press state rankings for large schools.

Waunakee (7-0) drew one first-place vote and totaled 69 points to stand in third place in the rankings, behind No. 1 Kimberly and No. 2 Franklin. Kimberly and Franklin will likely play in Division 1 in the WIAA playoffs, and Waunakee is expected to play in Division 2.

Sun Prairie (7-0) held firm at No. 4 in the large-school rankings.

Monona Grove (7-0), last year’s Division 2 state runner-up, moved up one place to No. 8 this week. The Silver Eagles meet undefeated Stoughton, which earned honorable mention, in a Badger South Conference showdown on Friday.

Middleton also earned honorable mention among large schools.

In the medium-schools division, Lodi (7-0) held on to the No. 1 ranking for a second consecutive week. Mount Horeb/Barneveld moved up one position to No. 6, Lake Mills held firm at No. 9 and Rock Valley Conference leader Clinton earned honorable mention.

In the small-schools division, Bangor held on to the no. 3 ranking, Black Hawk held firm at No. 5 and Markesan at No. 10. Fall River and Horicon/Hustisford earned honorable mention.
