Dow Jones Announces Appointments

NEW YORK (AP) _ Dow Jones & Co. Inc., publisher of The Wall Street Journal, announced Friday that Bernard T. Flanagan, vice president of marketing for the newspaper, has been named to the same job at the parent company, a new position.

Flanagan will report to Peter R. Kahn, president of Dow Jones, and will assist Kahn and other Dow Jones executives on overall advertising and marketing strategy, the company said.

Flanagan, 59, will continue to direct the Journal’s advertising efforts, it said.

In other appointments, Paul Atkinson, the Journal’s advertising sales director, was named vice president of advertising at the paper; Robert D. Higgins, director of advertising services for Dow Jones, was named to the additional post of director of advertising administration at the Journal; and James Friedlich, circulation director of The Wall Street Journal Europe, will be director of international sales and marketing for Dow Jones publications.

All the appointments are effective Oct. 1.
