Top pick Mahomes makes debut at St. Joseph camp
In a training camp dominated by new faces, one of the biggest newcomers made a debut Tuesday for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Top draft pick Patrick Mahomes III suited up Tuesday morning at Missouri Western State University, where the Kansas City Chiefs hold their training camp. Mahomes was signed to a four-year contract reportedly worth $16.4 million, with a $10 million signing bonus.
“I was really sure that I was going to be at camp on time,” Mahomes said in remarks to the media after practice.
Chiefs starting quarterback Alex Smith also spoke to the media after practice and said it was good to be back in St. Joseph.
Chiefs rookies and quarterbacks arrived Monday at Missouri Western for training camp and will hit the practice fields for three days before the rest of the team joins them on Thursday. The first public practice is set for Friday at 3:30 p.m. That session features $5 admission and a team autograph session.
