A 60-year-old Arlington man is being charged with 10 counts of child pornography possession.

Thomas P. Duffy made his initial appearance Nov. 16 in Columbia County Circuit Court on the felony charges carrying possible prison sentences of up to 25 years each.

According to the criminal complaint, special agents of the Internet Crimes Against Children and Computer Crimes of the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation, found that in August a computer linked to Duffy’s residence had accessed an explicit image of an underage girl. On Nov. 14, an agent accompanied by Columbia County Sheriff’s officers searched Duffy’s residence while he was home.

During the search, the agent and officers located two hard drives from a laptop computer, two phones and a tablet. At this point Duffy was advised he was not under arrest and was free to terminate the interview at any time. Duffy stated he had lived alone for the past 10 years and identified his internet provider, but said he could not remember his password. Duffy then terminated the conversation and declined to provide the “swipe” pattern for his phone.

After the responding agent identified the devices to be searched and items to be secured for investigation, Duffy began to experience chest pain, according to the complaint. Duffy was then taken to a local hospital. Upon his medical clearance, he was arrested and taken to jail.

During subsequent DCI investigation, six explicit videos and four explicit images of children were discovered in Duffy’s hard drives, according to the complaint.

Duffy has a preliminary hearing set for Thursday.
