Donald Trump on Rep. Ilhan Omar: She ‘doesn’t really understand...real life’
President Trump said Monday he has no second thoughts about calling out Rep. Ilhan Omar, deeming her “extremely unpatriotic and extremely disrespectful”for her comments on 9/11 and Israel.
“She’s been very disrespectful to this country. She’s been very disrespectful, frankly, to Israel. She is somebody that doesn’t really understand, I think, life, real life. What it’s all about,” the president said in an interview with KSTP ABC 5.
“It’s unfortunate. She’s got a way about her that’s very, very bad, I think for our country. I think she’s extremely unpatriotic and extremely disrespectful,” he continued.
The president tweeted an edited video Friday of a Ms. Omar speech from last month in which she referred to the Sept. 11 attacks as “some people [doing] something,” spliced with footage of the attack on the World Trade Center.
Ms. Omar, Minnesota Democrat and one of the first two Muslim women in Congress, said in a statement Sunday that she has “experienced an increase in direct threats” on her life since Mr. Trump’s tweet.
Ms. Omar has faced accusations of anti-Semitism since criticizing pro-Israel lobbyist groups and questioning the loyalty of Jewish lawmakers who pushed back against her criticisms of the Israeli government.
