City girls defeat Memorial

The Michigan City girls basketball team on Thursday picked up a 58-54 road win at Elkhart Memorial. Hannah Noveroske scored a career-high 30 points for the Wolves (7-6), who led by 15 at halftime and staved off a furious Crimson Chargers rally. Noveroske added 14 rebounds and five blocked shots, while Janicia Anderson and Madison Evans each scored nine points.

Glenn wrestling 7th in Super Duals, loses to Jimmies

John Glenn’s wrestling team placed seventh (69) with an 0-4 record in the Wawasee Super Duals on Saturday. Falcons’ first-year wrestler Paco Gonzales went undefeated at 132 pounds.

Glenn fell at Jimtown, 75-3, on Dec. 14. The Falcons’ Milo Peddycord was the only victory, winning by one takedown in overtime.

Elston’s Boguslawski named to Silver Anniversary team

Michigan City Elston graduate Megan Boguslawski has been named to the 2017 Women’s Silver Anniversary team as presented by the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. Boguslawski graduated in 1991 and was named all-state for girls basketball.

All Women’s Silver Anniversary team members will be honored at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame’s 16th Annual Women’s Banquet on April 29. The ceremony will take place at the Primo Banquet Hall, on the south side of Indianapolis. Bobby Plump to speak at PCC sportsmanship banquet

Bobby Plump of the 1954 Milan state boys basketball champion will be the guest speaker at the 50th annual Porter County Conference sportsmanship banquet Jan. 8, 2017, at the Porter County Expo Center. He was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 1981. The student athletes from the eight conference schools are guests for the afternoon. A slide show of 50 years of sportsmanship banquet memories is being compiled. La Porte to celebrate Final Four 20th anniversary

The 20th anniversary of the Slicers Final Four boys basketball season will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017. Coaches, players, managers, administrators and others associated with the 1997 basketball team will be recognized between the JV and varsity games vs. Goshen that day.

The starting time for the JV game is 3 p.m. CST, followed by the varsity game. A reception will be held at the Silver Palace in La Porte beginning at 6 p.m. for those involved with the 1997 team, their family members and Slicer fans who would like to reminisce about that magical season. Admission to the reception will be $12 and tickets may be purchased in the La Porte High School athletic office beginning on Dec. 5. Hors d’ oeuvres and soft drinks will be provided and a cash bar will be available.

La Porte County YMCA youth boys basketball

La Porte County YMCA youth boys basketball is coming up. They have a skills clinic on Jan. 7 and Saturday games running from Jan. 21-Feb. 25. To request a specific coach and be guaranteed a T-Shirt, sign up by Dec. 27. The cost is $42 for YMCA members and $60 for YMCA non-members.
