The Rams (5-9) outshot FSU 18-4 in the first period, but weren’t able to solve freshman netminder Matthew Stephan until late in the frame. Billy Roche tallied the first goal of the game with just 39 seconds left in the first, with assists awarded to Brian Brook and Joe Vingi.

Mikhail Bryan doubled the lead for the guests at the 4:12 mark of the second period before Joseph Mortillaro pushed the lead to 3-0 just 15 seconds later.

Fitchburg State (6-5-2) broke through six minutes into the middle period, as Brandon Ecklund’s second goal of the year cut the margin to 3-1. Connor McPherson and Patrick Germain tallied assists on the marker.

Suffolk capped the scoring with 2:46 left, courtesy of a shorthanded, empty-net goal by LJ Fellows.

Stephan turned aside 43 shots for the Falcons, who were outshot 47-35 on the night.

Will Ribas stopped 34 shots for the guests.

The Falcons return to action Thursday night, traveling to Plymouth State for a MASCAC tilt.
