Manistee man found at boat launch identified, officials believe he drowned
MANISTEE — Officials with the Manistee Department of Public Safety on Tuesday morning identified the man found at the Ninth Street boat launch on Nov. 25, and officials say he drowned.
Manistee Director of Public Safety Timothy E. Kozal said in a press release that the 82-year-old Manistee man found at the boat launch was identified as Stuart Donald Johnston.
The man was found on Nov. 25, and Manistee police and fire departments responded to the scene. An autopsy was conducted on Nov. 26, Kozal said.
“The preliminary cause of death was drowning,” Kozal said. “Investigators are asking if anyone visited the area of the 9th Street boat launch on November 24 or 25 to please contact the Manistee Police Department at 231-723-2533.”
The matter is still under investigation, Kozal said.
