Active-duty US Navy servicewoman admits to illegal gun buy

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — An active-duty member of the U.S. Navy has admitted she helped a New Jersey couple illegally purchase five handguns in Virginia.

Twenty-four-year-old Tesora Amanda Cortes Trejorojas, of Norfolk, Virginia, pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of conspiring with others to transport and receive in New Jersey firearms purchased and obtained outside the state. NJ.com reports Trejorojas admitted she purchased five semiautomatic handguns and 200 rounds of ammunition, and falsely claimed she was the buyer of the guns.

Trejorojas faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine when she is sentenced on Sept. 25.
