Raider men, women fall to McCook
Central Community College-Columbus men’s and women’s basketball suffered a pair of losses to McCook Community College on Tuesday at the Raider Fieldhouse.
The women trailed by just four at halftime before falling into a large second-half hole on a 17-3 run by McCook.
The loss dropped the women to 2-6 on the season.
“We were kind of sluggish, and I think we were ready for Thanksgiving break,” head coach Billy Perkins said in comments released by CCC. “They had some really good pressure on us, and we hadn’t seen that all year. We just couldn’t get into the flow of the game.”
Day zday Ion Gardner led the CCC women with 12 points on 5 of 14 shooting.
The men dropped a 99-78 game to McCook and fell to 1-7 on the season. The Indians hit 13 3-pointers on the night and pulled away in the second half thanks to long-range shooting.
Zavier Stevens led CCC with 21 points while Delrico Simms came off the bench and scored 10.
“The guys competed for about 30 minutes,” coach Jerry Drymon said. “One of the things we have focused on over the past week is just play hard. I’m proud of the guys for the things we’ve asked them to do, they’ve done.”
