Gabrielle Union’s ‘Bad Boys’ spinoff picked up by NBC

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- New Cleveland resident Gabrielle Union has landed a pilot for NBC based on the “Bad Boys” movie franchise.

First reported by Deadline, Union will reprise her “Bad Boys 2” role as Syd Burnett, sister of Martin Lawrence’s Marcus Burnett character and former undercover DEA agent turned LAPD detective.

In the movie, Union’s character was romanced by Will Smith’s Mike Lowrey. No word yet if either Smith or Lawrence will drop by for a cameo. The two have been trying to get “Bad Boys 3” off the ground for years and there’s no sign that it ever will.

Union will serve as executive producer on the series, should it get picked up, along with action-movie mogul Jerry Bruckheimer. Michael Bay, who directed the two “Bad Boys” films, doesn’t appear to be involved.

Union has a lot on her plate. Her BET series “Being Mary Jane” is ending after four seasons with a two-hour movie next year. She’s also developing a sitcom with LeBron James called “White Dave” at ABC.

Union moved to Cleveland last month after her husband, Dwyane Wade, signed with the Cavaliers.
