Office: Arizona unemployment rate unchanged in July at 4.9%
PHOENIX (AP) — Arizona’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.9% in July, unchanged from June.
The state Office of Economic Opportunity announced Thursday that Arizona’s labor force increased by just over 15,200 people in July while the state’s economy lost 11,400 nonfarm jobs.
The job loss is less than the historical 10-year average loss of 21,000 jobs in July.
The office said the government sector lost 6,500 jobs during July while the private sector lost 4,900 during the month, with five private-sector industries gaining jobs and five posting losses.
The private-sector industries with the biggest losses were leisure and hospitality (down 2,300 jobs) and professional and business services sectors (down 3,500 jobs). The manufacturing sector added 1,700 jobs to post the biggest gain.
