Ants’ season opens with loss to Skyforce
Davon Reed scored 24 points : he made 9 of 23 shots : but the Mad Ants dropped their season-opening game 112-101 to the Sioux Falls Skyforce in South Dakota on Friday night.
Reed, who played last season for the Phoenix Suns and is on a two-way contract with the Indiana Pacers this season, added 14 rebounds in his first game for Fort Wayne.
Stephan Hicks had 20 points for the Mad Ants, who were outscored 25-18 in the fourth quarter at the Sanford Pentagon, in front of an announced crowd of 2,678.
Yante Maten scored 20 points to pace Sioux Falls. Briante Weber and DeAndre Liggins had 18 points apiece for the Skyforce, which shot 47 percent from the field.
Fort Wayne, which shot 42 percent, got 15 points from rookie Elijah Stewart. Omari Johnson had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Tra-Deon Hollins had 13 points and nine assists. Ike Anigbogu, on assignment from the Pacers, had seven points, 11 rebounds and three shot blocks.
The Mad Ants were outscored 41-26 in the first quarter and trailed 71-59 at halftime.
Hicks had 15 points in the first half on 7-of-9 shooting. Hicks finished 9 of 14 from the field.
