Schneider wins at final indoor meet
MONMOUTH, Ill. — Brett Schneider of Fort Madison High School finished first and teammate Sierra Howardson fourth out of 31 runners in the 800-meter run Saturday in the final indoor meet of the spring season.
The Bloodhounds competed at the Galesburg Last Chance Indoor meet, held at Monmouth College’s indoor track.
Schneider finished in 2:25.52, near three seconds ahead of the runner up, and Howardson ran a 2:31.08. Schneider’s time was seventh fastest in the state for the indoor season.
Those two Hounds had earlier in the morning teamed up with Kamryn Bailey and Claire Mendez and finished second in the 4x800 relay in 10:27.67.
Brittiney Harris placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 33 feet even. In between throws, she ran the 60-meter dash and came in 33rd in :09.35.
Cayleigh Smith ran the 3,200 — 16 times around the 200-meter track — in 14:09.05, with Claire Hellman 12th in 15:05.89.
Bailey came in 16th in the 200-meter dash in :30.70, with Brynn Schroeder 24th in :31.50.
Mendez came in 16th in the 400 in 1:12.30. Alaina Gilpin placed 26th in 1:18.88.
In the 1,600-meter run — eight times around the shorter track — Elizabeth Miller finished 16th and Anna Kester 19th in 6:32.46 and 6:41.51, respectively.
Miller also ran a sprint — the 60-meter hurdles — and placed 23rd in :13.42.
Fort Madison’s 4x200-meter relay team of Bailey, Schroeder, Maddy McVey and Gilpin came in 16th in 2:04.28.
Fort Madison opens the outdoor season March 30 with the FMHS boys at the Mount Pleasant Invitational.
