Local American Legion Post holds Memorial Day ceremony in Bath
A small group of residents, veterans and members of American Legion Post 153 gathered Saturday morning to honor military veterans and those who have fallen while serving in the military.
The Memorial Day ceremony was held at Veterans Memorial Park in Bath by American Legion Post 153.
The annual ceremony honored veterans from all branches of the military, said William Payne, an official with American Legion Post 153.
Commander Harry Barton welcomed everyone to the ceremony and Chaplain Mike Jones gave the opening prayer.
The speaker for the event was USN “R” Chief Self, who gave a speech about the meaning of being a veteran and teaching children the importance of recognizing the meaning of freedom compared to living under communist rule.
Trumpet players, Fabio Man and Josh Workman, played the national anthem and other patriotic songs.
There were also special singers, including Corey Barton, Angie Barton and Savannah Barton.
Rev. Steven Phillips gave the “Soldier’s Prayer” and Chaplain Jones closed the ceremony by recognizing the names of deceased veterans on the monument wall in Veterans Memorial Park.
