Hot Property ‘Rare find at the price point’ in Darien’s Delafield Island

Originally a 1930s ranch house that has since been added to and today feels like a farmhouse, this property in the heart of Darien’s Delafield Island offers something for everyone.

Co-listing agent Amanda Davenport, of Halstead Connecticut, called the home, “a rare find at the price point it’s at. You can’t buy a home like this in this neighborhood every day.” The home is listed for $1.395 million.

Surrounded by mature trees and beautiful rhododendrons on 1.5 acres, the home “is something you do not get from new construction today,” Davenport said. “It has a very natural look and is not overly done.”

The 3,530-square-foot gray home features five bedrooms and four full baths with a main level and a upper level living.

Walk into an entry on the main level and you will see original slate floors, Davenport said.

“The house is a U-shaped that surrounds a patio,” she said. “It has a very intimate feel to it.”

Most of the main level, she noted, has access to the outside from their rooms. To the left of the entry is a stairwell to two upstairs bedrooms, including the master suite.

“The master is enormous,” Davenport said. “It’s 21-by-17. You walk into a dressing room that folds into the bathroom. The house has not been touched in some time and it looking for the next person to overhaul it.”

The main level also features a formal living room with a fireplace and access to the patio. The formal living room, Davenport said, “has beautiful hardwood floors and lots of light. It also has built-ins.”

The living room leads into the formal dining room, which also has a stairwell and links to the kitchen.

The kitchen, Davenport said, is from the 1950s and “needs to be retouched. The space is definitely there. It’s like a clean palate to overhaul and make your own.”

The kitchen, she said, folds into a spacious family room.

“The flow is something people today are looking for,” Davenport said. “That kitchen and family room have a great flow and open concept.”

Down a half level from the kitchen is a playroom. It’s formerly the garage and can be made into a workout room or gym or it can even be converted back into a garage, Davenport said.

There is a mudroom off the kitchen, as well as a really small bedroom that can be used as an office.

The upper level, Davenport said, “is very simple. There are two nice-sized bedrooms and the top of the stairs has a landing.”

The house is within a mile of Pear Tree Point Beach. Another nice feature is at the bottom of the street is Gorhams Pond.

“The pond freezes over in the winter and the kids ice skate on it,” she said.
