County board member resigns
With no apparent fanfare, Patrick McConnell ended his more than decade-long service on the Kankakee County Board last month.
His last day was Aug. 31. The District 27 vacancy was announced at a committee meeting; the county clerk’s office wasn’t aware of it Wednesday.
The board’s agenda this week included a list of vacancies on boards for historical preservation, zoning and drainage, among others, but there was no mention of McConnell’s position.
McConnell, R-Bourbonnais, who was elected in 2008, missed 15 percent of meetings in the last year, according to attendance records.
Board chairman Andy Wheeler, R-Kankakee, can nominate a replacement, but the person must be a Republican like McConnell. Wheeler’s nominee is subject to board approval. Wheeler said both political parties have been informed.
McConnell didn’t return a call for comment.
The board next meets Oct. 9. With no vacancies, the board has 28 members.
