Outdoor Skating Rink Now Open

TEWKSBURY -- The town’s new outdoor skating rink is officially open to the public. The rink, located in the Livingston Street Complex, is open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Hockey, tobacco products and horseplay are prohibited on the rink. Beginners are advised to stay to the right and skaters under 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult. The full list of rules is posted at the site.

Trivia night to benefit WHS band

WILMINGTON -- The Wilmington Band Parents’ annual Trivia Night is Saturday, April 5 at the Wilmington Knights of Columbus, located at 112 Middlesex Ave. Doors open at 7 p.m., but trivia begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 each and there are tables of 10 available. Parents night for Tewksbury

TEWKSBURY -- An eighth-grade parents night is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 31. The informational event will take place at Tewksbury Memorial High School, located at 320 Pleasant St., from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The snow date is Thursday, Feb. 7.

‘Breaking Points’ viewing event

BILLERICA -- The Billerica Substance Abuse Prevention Committee will host a screening next month of “Breaking Points,” a documentary exploring stress, anxiety and unhealthy ways of coping among high school and college students. The screening is at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 12 in the Billerica Memorial High School auditorium. The documentary includes perspectives from teens and experts exploring behaviors normalized among students, including the abuse of prescription medications.

According to a press release from the commission, 10th grade students in Billerica Public Schools reported higher than average levels of methamphetamine use in 2017. Overall, 4.8 percent of Billerica Public Schools students report having used an illicit drug other than marijuana at least once in their lives, according to the release.

MLK Jr. brunch in Billerica

BILLERICA -- The First Congregational Church in Billerica will host the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Brunch at 9:30 a.m. on Monday. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advanced from the First Congregational Church for $7. This year’s event will focus on King’s interests in economic and social justice and promoting world peace.

The keynote speaker is Shan Cretin who will speak about her seven years as the general secretary of the American Friends Service Committee, working on peace, social justice and humanitarian assistance programs. Brunch will include a panel about challenges faced by asylum seekers living in the area led by Rev. Ruth Bersin, executive director of Refugee Immigration Ministry of Malden. Members of the choir of the New England Seventh Day Adventist Luganda Church, Abhyaas Music School and a Billerica Interfaith Association choir will perform.
