SideTrack: Elizabeth Banks, Talib Kweli, Olivia Culpo and more...
THE BLAST AT BERKLEE: Hip-hop artist and activist Talib Kweli dropped by Berklee College of Music to tell students how he ... ahem, got by ... in the music business, as well as outside it. The “Crossfire” collaborator and entrepreneur shared lessons learned from joint ventures he’s taken on with fellow artists, such as the bookstore he bought with Mos Def. From the stories he shared, students walked away knowing a more about what made Kweli an “everything man.”
SHOE BIZ: Footwear News (it’s a thing) caught up with Pittsfield’s own Elizabeth Banks at last week’s premiere of “Power Rangers,” first to chat about her character Rita Repulsa’s rather fab wedge heel boots, and then got the lowdown on the star’s preferred pumps. “I was given a pair of Alexander McQueen shoes from playing Effie Trinket in ‘The Hunger Games’ and that is my most beloved pair of shoes,” Banks said, referring to a design from McQueen successor Sarah Burton’s fall 2012 collection. We’d ask for the Repulsa boots, too, for running errands.
VEGAS, BABY: Beauty queen (and just all-around beauty) Olivia Culpo has a super supportive BF in New England Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola. The model/actress made the cover of Vegas Magazine, and Amendola posted a pic of himself reading a copy on Instagram, captioned “Vegas Book Club. #prettygirl @oliviaculpo.” Nice. The couple headed to Sin City for the grand opening of the W Las Vegas hotel Friday, where they were spotted on a double date with Cara Santana and Jesse Metcalfe.
MENU, PLEASE: Two-time Super Bowl Cham- pion Patriots coach Brian Flores served a tasty auction item at Diburro’s in Haverhill: He put a dinner for four with him up for bid. Flores raised $19,000 for the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence. Delish!
