Purdue drops plan to change wording at top of diploma
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Purdue University has dropped a proposal to add “Northwest” to the top of diplomas granted at satellite campuses.
The decision followed some protests and other criticism at campuses in Hammond and Westville. Students said they were told they could get a Purdue degree at a lower cost by living at home and commuting.
Student Government Association vice president Dustin Thibideau says it shows that officials “took the students’ concerns seriously.”
There will be some small changes. Chancellor Thomas Keon says the campus location at the bottom of diplomas will be shortened to “Purdue Northwest” from “Purdue University Northwest.”
