Fire Erupts at Chevron Chemical Plant East of Houston
BAYTOWN, Texas (AP) _ Fire erupted Friday afternoon at a Chevron Chemical Co. plant, sending flames shooting 100 feet in the air. No one was hurt and the fire was extinguished within two hours, authorities said.
The blaze began shortly before 1:30 p.m. in one section at Chevron’s Cedar Bayou Chemical Plant, said spokesman Clay Hooper. A Chevron fire brigade at the plant extinguished it by 3:30 p.m.
Cedar Bayou is a small community near Baytown. The towns are about 30 miles east of Houston.
The fire broke out in a unit of the plant that uses ethylene to make an additive for detergents, officials said.
