Divers recover body of 62-year-old man in NY’s Oneida Lake
CICERO, N.Y. (AP) — Divers have recovered the body of a 62-year-old man who failed to resurface after jumping into a lake in central New York.
Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol says Richard Whitney of West Monroe went swimming from a boat at Lakeshore Yacht Club on Oneida Lake about 10 miles north of Syracuse around 3 p.m. Saturday. His body was found about 24 hours later by state police using sonar equipment.
An autopsy is scheduled Monday to determine the cause of death.
Searchers were also looking for a 51-year-old man who went over the side of a boat in the South Bay area of Oneida Lake Friday evening and never resurfaced.
