Sundstrand Selling Trans Com Systems To Sony
ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) _ Sundstrand Corp. is selling its Trans Com Systems to Sony USA Inc., company officials announced.
The companies have agreed in principle on the sale, which is subject to approval of the boards of directors of both corporations, Sundstrand said in a statement issued.
Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
Trans Com, located in Costa Mesa, Calif., is a leading supplier of airline passenger audio and visual entertainment systems. It offers both video monitor and projection devices and is a pioneer in the development of seatback and armrest video equipment.
Other Trans Com products include a combination compact disc and cassette audio system for background music and prerecorded announcements.
Sony has been the primary supplier of video and audio components to Trans Com.
Sony USA is a unit of the Japanese electronics company Sony Corp.
Sundstrand, maker of technology-based items for the aerospace and industrial markets, pleaded guilty in October to defrauding the Defense Department by overbilling for aircraft parts. The company agreed to fines and repayments totaling $177 million, the largest settlement in Pentagon history.
